What Geocash collects about you, why, and what happens to it when you delete your account.

Version 2026-10-26-draft

What we collect

  • Your email address and password. The password is stored scrambled; nobody can read it back.
  • Your date of birth, to check you’re 18 or over for paid hunts and pub crawls.
  • Your mobile number, if you give one. It’s optional, and we don’t send texts.
  • A display name and avatar, if you set them.
  • Your location, only while a hunt screen is open, to tell how close you are to a checkpoint. We keep the locations your phone sends during a hunt for 30 days, so the Geocash team can see where a hunt went wrong for you; only the team sees them.
  • Errors your phone or our server meets while you play a hunt, with the browser or app it happened in, for 30 days.
  • Your hunt progress: the hunts you enter, how many tries each puzzle took (not the answers you tried), the hints you reveal, the relics you find and when you finish.
  • For each sign-in, the IP address and the browser or app it came from.
  • Feedback you send us, and the browser or app you sent it from.

What we use it for

To run hunts, show standings, check a winner’s finish and keep under-18s out of hunts that are for adults. Other hunters see you in standings by number, not by name.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell your information or show you ads.
  • We don’t take payments, so we hold no card details.
  • We don’t send email or texts from this build. If you ticked the launch-email box, we’ll use it only when Geocash launches.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count which screens are used, on the website and in the Geocash app. It’s on unless you turn it off, and you can turn it off at any time: with the switch on this page, in Account settings, or in your venue’s Settings.

  • Google gets the name of each screen (not its web address), whether it was the website, the iPhone app or the Android app, a random number that stands for your account (not your email or name), and the website you came from (not the page). Like any website, Google also sees your IP address and device type, from which it works out your country, nothing finer.
  • It never gets your name, email, date of birth, where you are during a hunt, puzzle answers, or anything from a link that signs you in or a QR code.
  • While it’s on, Google Analytics puts cookies on your device; we remove them when you turn it off. If you turn it off on a device you’re not signed in on, a cookie remembers that, and signing in or signing up turns it off for that account too.
  • Advertising features and Google Signals are off. Google keeps the detailed data for 14 months, and only totals after that.
  • We never use it when you’re signed in as a player under 18, or as a player whose age we don’t know, whatever the switch says, so there’s no switch for them. It’s never used for Geocash staff or in the admin tools.
  • Deleting your account gives it a new random number, so what Google already has no longer points to you.

Analytics is on on this device.

Deleting your account

Delete it from Account settings. Your email, password, mobile number, date of birth, display name, avatar and launch-email consent are removed, and you’re signed out everywhere, which removes each sign-in’s IP address and browser record. The locations kept from your hunts are deleted too. Your finishes stay in past standings, without your name, and feedback you sent stays with us as feedback.

Questions

Use “Send feedback” on your profile to reach the Geocash team.

It shows us which screens people use. It never gets your name, email, where you are during a hunt, or your answers, and it's never used for ads. Privacy Policy
