Four moves from the couch to the jackpot

  1. Discover

Find a hunt running near you and enter it before the window opens.

  2. Walk

Follow the clue into the streets. Your phone knows when you have arrived.

  3. Solve

Crack the riddle at each checkpoint — it points you to the next one.

  4. Jackpot

The last checkpoint is the jackpot venue. First through takes the top spot.

Hidden along every route. Yours to keep.

Relics hide between the checkpoints. When one is in reach, open the camera and tap it. Most come in pieces, so collect them all to make the relic whole.

  • A signal that warms as you close in

Cold, warm, hot, burning. Your phone buzzes harder the nearer you get.

  • Relics you capture in the camera

When one is in reach, open the camera and tap it to capture it. Collect the pieces to make it whole.

  • Standings that move live

The leaderboard shifts the moment anyone checks in. No sign-posts — just the city and your wits.

Anything else? Email hello@geocash.online.

What is Geocash?

A treasure hunt played across the city. Each hunt is a route of checkpoints. At every stop a riddle points you to the next one, and the last stop is the jackpot venue — the first hunter through it takes the top spot.

How is it different from geocaching or Pokémon Go?

Geocaching has no race, and Pokémon Go mostly plays wherever you happen to be standing. In Geocash a riddle points you to a real place, you walk there, and everyone else on the hunt is heading the same way — with the standings moving live.

Do I need to download an app?

Yes. Hunts are played in the Geocash app. You can browse hunts, sign up and enter one on the website, but the hunt itself runs in the app. Get the Geocash app.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

While Geocash is in testing, the iPhone app is open to anyone through Apple's TestFlight, and the Android app is with a small group of testers. On Android, the phone also needs Google Play Services for AR to play a hunt — the app tells you if yours can't.

What do I need to bring?

Your phone, charged, with location turned on — and comfortable shoes. Nothing else.

How do I check in at a checkpoint?

When you're close, the hunt says so. Tap to confirm your arrival, on the map or in the camera. On some hunts, checkpoints also have a QR code you can scan instead.

What if my GPS drops out?

Your progress is saved, so you pick up where you left off when the signal comes back. On a hunt with QR codes, scanning one confirms your arrival just as GPS does.

What if I can't crack a riddle?

Keep guessing — capitals, punctuation and a leading “the” don't count against you. After three wrong answers, most riddles offer a short list to choose from.

What are relics?

Collectibles hidden along the route. When one is in reach, open the camera and tap it to capture it. Most come in pieces — collect them all to make the relic whole, and keep them in your Relics collection.

Can I join a hunt that has already started?

Yes. You can enter a hunt until its window closes.

How old do I need to be?

Paid hunts and pub crawls are 18+. You give your date of birth when you sign up.

Is it safe?

Hunts run through public places — streets, parks, laneways and landmarks. Keep an eye on your surroundings, and never go onto private property to reach a checkpoint.

Can my business or group have its own hunt?

Not on your own yet. Email hello@geocash.online and tell us about your group or your venue.
